在柏林又一个紧张的谈判日之后，中间派的自由民主党(FDP)在午夜前不久宣布，他们将退出与默克尔的保守派阵营和左翼绿党的谈判。
自由民主党的领导人Christian Lindner表示，两党在政策上无法消除分歧，但也未能形成“信任和共同想法的基础”。
他补充称：“与其不好的联合，不如不要联合。”
目前来看，除非默克尔能在未来几天吸引自由民主党重返谈判桌，否则这位“欧洲女王”只剩下三种选择：
1、她可以尝试与中左翼的社会民主党重新联合执政，不过这是社民党一再排除的一个选择。
2、与少数党政府组成新的执政政府。
3、第三种选择是迫使进行新的选举。
值得注意的是，重新选举将给德国整个体系带来冲击，因外界普遍担心德国右翼的替代方案可能会比两个月前选举结果的更好。
